There
are four commands mentioned in these verses...(1) go, (2) teach,
(3) baptize, and (4) make disciples. However, only one of these
is an imperative command in the Greek..."to make disciples!"
In other words, making disciples is given greater emphasis and priority.
Therefore,
the Great Commission can be accurately stated this way...As you
go into all the world – The
New Testament word for disciple mean "taught or learned one."
The implication being expressed in the Greek is defined as "serious
thought accompanied by aggressive endeavor." In other words,
a disciple was not just a pupil, but an adherent (and an "imitator"
of the teacher). It is therefore the passion and purpose of John
8:31 Ministries to create true disciples – not merely decisions!
